Why Does Pre-Workout Make Me Tingly?
One of the most common questions we get asked is, “Why does pre-workout make me feel tingly?” The culprit behind this side-effect is an ingredient called Beta-Alanine. Let’s dive into it!
What’s Beta-Alanine?
- It’s a non-essential amino acid
- It helps increase carnosine levels in your muscles, which is responsible for reducing fatigue during intense workouts
Why do I feel tingly?
- The tingling feeling (medically called paresthesia) happens when beta-alanine binds to nerve receptors under the skin
- It’s most common in the face, neck, shoulders, and hands
- It normally kicks in 15-20 minutes after taking your pre-workout supplement
Should I be concerned?
Nope! It’s a totally normal, harmless reaction to your nerves feeling a buzz from the Beta-alanine. It’s actually a sign that it’s working and normally fades somewhere between 30-60 minutes after consumption.
